Rob Lloyd “I’m Wrexham born and bread and grew up loving Motown and Soul. Inherited a box of soul records from an older sister when I was about 12 and have been buying them ever since I.e. 40 years. Progressed to buying rarer soul records (Northern Soul) and have probably 12,000 plus now.
Got to the stage where I wanted to hear my records out loud so bought some basic equipment to put Motown and Soul Nights on in various pubs.
Over the years, moved on to putting my own venues on and asking a couple of other soul collectors to DJ regularly for me.Picked up the collective name of Soul Train Soul Nights, Wrexham.
We put on a monthly Motown/Soul night on in the Lager Club and a monthly Northern Soul night on in the War Memorial Club……used to put these on in the big Memorial Hall before it became a Covid test centre. Also do Northern Soul All Dayers in Brymbo Cric (3 next year)….the Northern Soul Nights attract people from all over, the Motown nights attract a more local crowd. We do a few other venues less frequently and also do regular Fundraisers for deserving cases when even I and my DJs pay to get in.
